The start of Newark happens in 1758 with recognition in the form of a Charter from King George II and Newark was officially born. We happened to be on eBay (we are spending way too much time on eBay) and just for the heck of it searched for George II. First in the list with 38 SECONDS left on an auction was a 1734 George II half penny. In a mad rush to figure out where the bidding stood, how many people were bidding, what the price was, what we were willing to pay, to get that price in, and confirm it, we looked like a slapstick scene out of an old Keystone Cops movie. Well it worked, but the reason it did was that the bidding was in POUNDS and not dollars. Oh, well.
