THIS IS NOT A LETTERPRESS PROJECT

The 300-page, 250-year history of our own City of Newark, Delaware, included 1,000 hardback copies and twelve deluxe leather-bound copies. The deluxe copies had a silver British half shilling bound into the cover and viewable from both sides. Minted in 1758, the year the city’s charter was signed, the coin shows a profile of King George II who signed that charter. A major design element in the book is the ‘citizen band’ we created to run through the entire book documenting some 3,700 townies. Listening to people’s stories, looking at their mementos and seeing the past through their eyes was priceless.

Lead Graffiti handled the design and retouching, took most of the photography of the historical elements, and all of the citizen photos.
